One of the best things that happened in my last trip to Barcelona, was to do the mural for La Mono magazine, BUT specially to meet Eva Villazala ( the Editor and owner of the magazine) and Anthya Tirado ( Marketing Director ), amazing and fun loving girls. And to my great surprise they told me that they wanted to interview me for their last issue and they ask me to do a painting for the cover. Of course I said YES and had a fun time making it!
Here is the painting I did for the cover, and you can download the magazine to read the interview HERE . OOOOH and you can download all of LaMono magazine there … so enjoy!!!
Remember the pics I uploaded of the mural I did in Barcelona with Ilia, Andrea, Mau?! Well here is the cool evidence! Big thanks to Montana
So as you sow in the last post I am going crazy with the crown!!! In Barcelona I meet an amazing artist called Ilya aka B-TOY, and we got into a conversation of mixing and joining elements of our live into our art work, which we do that all the time, buuuuuuuttttttt what if we do it the other way around, bring to life elements and characteristics of our artwork to our own persona. SO since I have been painting a lot of crowns I decided to Make myself one and make several others for friends.
Any way a couple of weeks ago I went to a Mad Maus party here in Mexico city, and the host was Rick Genest aka Zombie Boy, who has been the face of Mugler and was in a video with Lady Gaga. Since I was feeling dorky and had an extra crown I gave him one! It look good on him. Here are some pics
pics of Rick Genenst by latinfashion news
And thats me with Gibran the producer and my crown of course heheh
Last year I donated a painting for Mexico Vivo, which is an art auction to benefit AIDS research. This year I was invited to participate by Martinez Sordo, to paint an OSO FREDO to be auction off to benefit Kids with cancer, a very important and serious problem. It was great to participate in an event like this full of people that are very motivated to help wholeheartedly.
Here are some pics of my bear and of and article that was out in RSVP for Excelsior
I LOVE, living in México City, but I also love and need to get out once in a wile to see new things, learn from other places, other people. My latest little escape was in April, I got to go to Barcelona and Berlin. Like most of my travels, I do a healthy mix of fun and work, I got to paint a mural in the new offices of an amazing Art, Fashion and Design magazine in Barcelona called “La Mono“, and since I fell in love with the Eva (owner-editor) and Anthya (co-editor) I made the mural with the farce “Love in Abundance”.
Later I went up to Berlin, which I fell in love with the city, the culture, the street art, art shows, galleries, etc. I don’t think I ever learn as much as in Berlin, in just 10 days I was completely refresh. So I HAD to do something in Berlin right!, so I did, with my great friends and travel partners Mauricio Guerrero and Paco Moreno, we did a little intervention in the Berlin wall. But shhhhhhh I don’t think we were suppose to do it ….
This is Mau Guerrero piece…
We are so immersed in the NOW culture, what’s IN at the moment, the color of the season, anything thats #trending… That we very easily forget about the events that have impacted us as a civilization. It is incredible that after such a huge tragedy struck Japan, after the unprecedented earthquake witch later followed a tsunami, today we don’t talk about it, we don’t tweet about it. How many (including me) didn’t even hear about the recent 7.4º earthquake that hit last week? We don’t even ask ourselves how our fellow humans are in the other side of the world anymore.
Hopefully we wont forget about Japan.

So I have been ignoring the blog and for that shaaaaaame on ME! I have a good excuse, but I will not get into it…. just know that I am back, and I am going to go crazy on you!
Its been said that pictures are worth a thousand words, but I have learned that words now are open to many interpretations. I experiment with phrases that might have a deep meaning to myself because of my background, knowing that the person next to me will look at it with a very different point of view.
This is the second mural i did for Adidas City Interventions in México City. It is by far the largest mural I have done yet! I have to admit I almost did something dirty in my pants when I was up there but it was very exiting!
Adidas is doing a new campaign in Mexico City, that I am a part of. Here is one of the murals that I did on an antique Japanese Trolly that is stationed permanently on Parque Mexico in La Condesa, a park thats a couple of blocks from my apartment!

Apple is publicly opposing Proposition 8 and making a donation of $100,000 to the No on 8 campaign. Apple was among the first California companies to offer equal rights and benefits to our employees’ same-sex partners, and we strongly believe that a person’s fundamental rights — including the right to marry — should not be affected by their sexual orientation. Apple views this as a civil rights issue, rather than just a political issue, and is therefore speaking out publicly against Proposition 8.
No on Prop 8
So I have been wanting to put this experience on paper and share it with you guys for a long time…
In the many years that I have been having art shows, I have always heard so many people close their eyes in self-gratification and say, “I support the arts.” But really, what is “supporting the arts”?
A couple of months ago I got a phone call from someone in LA that works with the marketing team of Pinkberry, the ultra-modern, super-slick, popular yogurt place. They recently opened a new one in Hillcrest in San Diego and wanted to do an official opening campaign. And since they “support the arts” and thought my artwork went well with their style and vision, they wanted me to have a mini art show in their ice cream place, which by the way had only one wall for me to use. And they wanted me to design the official T-shirt for Pinkberry San Diego.
All of this sounds OK. I wasn’t jumping for joy, but it’s a job, and a reputable business. And I have to say I do like their product. But when I asked this person a couple of detailed questions about how they wanted to accomplish this, she went on to say that Pinkberry is all about the arts and supporting the arts, and they want “a hip artist who’s locally involved,”and that they want to “support me and my wonderful artwork,” etc. So it came to my surprise when I asked about their budget for the “official San Diego Pink Berry T-shirt” that she replied, “Well, we don’t have a budget for that. That’s why we are giving you the ‘wonderful’ opportunity to get involved with us and show off your art in our new Pink Berry location.”
Now, I know I might seem to some of you like a pretentious asshole. But really, artists have a job, and it’s art. And yes, although some might think we don’t pay rent or eat, we do need money for the exchange of our “work,” not to mention our talent and time.

So this is the dress i did with tijuana’s own fashion designer Jorge Sanchez, we collaborated, for adapta project’s “dress me in paint” at the 5th anniversary thread show. Jorge’s boutique and studio are 5 min away from my apartment/studio, and i have known him and his work for years, we have collaborated before with the bags i did for Vallarta’s film festival. But this time we got really creative and created a very organic dress full of color and movement, i think it would be a size S, so if anyone is interested it is for sale is a one of a kind piece never to be reproduce ( impossible to do the painting was done by hand).
Just wanted to share with all of you what Robert Pincus wrote about the Saturday’s Adapta Show. If you want to read what he wrote go to UT hope to see all of you at the adapta show
